Gambling Away Insurance Money
My husband’s family are gambling addicts. His cousin, Ron, is a hard-worker, but always broke on account of using virtually every dollar he has to ‘hit the jackpot.’ In his 40s, Ron has moved back in with his parents because he was not able to pay his apartment rent. But he always has money to gamble with! The parents are not much better. Ron recently was involved in a minor car accident and called Jim, my husband, with a request for money to fix his truck. Jim told him to file an insurance claim. Turns out that before calling Jim, Ron had filed a claim and received a check. Ron gambled away the insurance money and now wants Jim to pay for his truck repairs!! I’ve instructed my husband NOT to send Ron a single cent.
