Gamblers: A Danger On The Road!!!

Gamblers on the road put your family’s safety at risk – and, are a threat to their own lives. I know because I have done it!!! I’ve spent 36 hours at a casino without sleep or food and spending money I could ill afford and putting my family’s financial future at risk – and then asked the valet for my car keys. ” Here you go, mam, and have a nice day!”

I’m despondent and tired beyond belief, but I’m behind the wheel of a car on the highway with you or your loved ones. I am as much a danger as that drunk who downed 20 shots in one night except…….. maybe someone stopped him because such is the law. No such law exists that stops me with no sleep and suicidal thoughts from getting behind the wheel of a car.

Now that I have been in recovery for a few months and am examining my life as an active compulsive gambler, I am horrified at the many times I drove while impaired. I thank God I never injured or killed another person or myself. I am also horrified at the awareness of the number of gamblers who are ” on the road”  in the same condition that I was in those many times  The casino operators know who the gamblers are that are ” under the influence.” They should not give keys to those people any more than a bartender should. The difference? There are laws that prohibit the bartender from letting a drunk person on the roads. There are no such laws regarding letting gamblers on the roads.
