It would be more accurate to say "casinos could NOT continue to operate without the
Addicted.". Entertainment gamblers are irrelevant to the casino business model, although they would represent more bodies on the casino floor during most business hours. Addicts are the life blood of the predatory business trade. The predators know it, but cynically sing the song of "responsible gambling."

The headline on this blog would be far more accurate if it read "We need to PRETEND we care......" The fact is that our state legislators who promote gambling expansion refuse to even read the large body of evidence and research that show that raising revenue through more and more gambling venues is ultimately the greatest of losing propositions! Even worse is that some legislators do read and comprehend the inherent evil involved with states preying upon the least of our citizens and vote for the expansion of gambling anyway! Then, they lessen their guilt for doing this by setting up miniscule funds for gambling treatment, which, as this article points out, is easily taken away at a later date. That, in itself is evidence that they know they are helping to grow the problem gambler population. (I think greed and getting something for nothing and a "quick fix" is at the root of this type of irresponsible behavior.)

Why oh why does my my Midwest mother in law think Gingrich is the way forward. She is a stone cold republican but she deeply admonishes gambling. Perhaps every, and i mean every, hopeful should be subjected to a televised 'roast' to display their career highs and lows. Obviously for some, it would be a 3 part mini series, but Fox seems to be having issues finding original shows. They will surely leap at the chance...

If you think gambling is a fact of life now, and is unfair to the patrons, the only solution is to uncover the truth behind the darkness and of the so-called trade secrets and establish higher paybacks by law. This should be somewhere around 95% payback. The people would vote for it.
