A story out of Pennsylvania today describes a new legislative effort to punish parents who go to area casinos and leave behind their children in the car. The push comes after there were seven cases involving 12 children left in cars at Parx Casino this summer.
Legislators want to increase the penalties for “stupid behavior” yet the entire government program of predatory gambling is based on fostering stupid behavior. Our government has partnered with casinos to provide free alcohol, “free” slots play (i.e. the casinos distribute $50 vouchers to entice people to gamble in the casino) and they offer loans to people knowing the money will soon be gambled away.
How could any legislator be surprised to learn children (and taxpayers) pay the price for the most predatory business in America, a business which government promotes, regulates and profits from?
