Yet in a story that has been repeated over and over again across America, the casinos have not saved Gary. Because you cannot build an economy on a something for nothing scheme, no matter if you are Bernie Madoff or the mayor of Gary, Indiana.
So what does the mayor of Gary and the city’s state representatives propose for their next plan “to save Gary”? They want to develop a land-based casino to solve Northwest Indiana’s problems.
That’s like a bank insisting the jailed Madoff manage its financial operation.
