Predatory gambling interests turning Ohio into The Suckeye State

by Les

Under the ruse of  “save the tracks,” the predatory gambling interests in Ohio are seeking to expand even further across the state. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the state’s seven racetracks are pushing for slots in the current legislative session to put the tracks on “equal footing with surrounding states.”

This public relations effort slogs on despite the fact the policy of predatory gambling has been a major failure in all of those same surrounding states. Even the major news engine of the horse racing business, The Daily Racing Form, has spotlighted how the long-term trends show the ontrack handle at racino racetracks has declined as a direct result of putting slot machines and table games in the building.

Predatory gambling interests are playing the citizens of Ohio for suckers. The time has come for the state’s public officials and its news media to put a stop to it.

The casino plan has been a full disaster

Governor Kasich needs to pull the plug not just on the racino plan but also on the casinos that are being pushed into the state. The people should get another chance to vote on the casino question now that we have all seen the mess. The people voted down casinos four times before until the casinos sneaked past in 2009. Another vote is in order.
