Ohio Supreme Court Justice: Casino money should not be allowed to emasculate state constitution

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Paul Pfeifer has called for a full review of the Ohio Constitution and rules that allow it to be altered, finding it hard to believe that the constitution can contain a provision allowing four casinos that was written and pushed by for-profit gambling interests and not the legislature.

Predatory gambling interests spent $60 million to pass a statewide referendum amending the state constitution to legalize casinos in 2009. Ohio citizens had already voted down casinos three times before but the predatory gambling interests, this time putting labor union groups out in front as the “face” of the campaign, dragged it over the finish line on the fourth try.
