Dennis Bailey, the talented, longtime leader of CasinosNo! in Maine, sent out the news alert below early this morning.
From Dennis:
Yesterday, the Maine House of Representatives bowed to the unprecedented lobbying campaign by the pro-casino forces and approved three more gambling casinos for Maine – without sending the measure to Maine voters!
If approved by the Senate, this vote will give Maine a total of five gambling casinos and 7,500 slot machines, more than all the other New England states combined.
Even more shocking were the lame excuses that legislators gave for their actions. Rep. Mark Dion of Portland said, “The gaming question has been asked and answered, it’s over.”
Really? When were Maine people asked to approve five gambling casinos for Maine? When did the 50% of Maine voters who rejected the Oxford casino last November say they wanted three more casinos in their state? If the question of whether to add a gambling casino in Biddeford has been answered, Rep. Dion, why did every Biddeford representative vote against it?
Even worse are the legislators who claim that gambling casinos represent “economic development.” Clearly, the state’s elected representatives are not interested in the facts. They’re listening to the high-priced lobbyists, not the people.
Is this the Maine you want? Maine – The Casino Gambling Mecca of New England?
If not, then please, call your state senator right now and tell them to vote NO on more casinos for Maine. It’s not too late to stop this gambling gravy train. Tell them to reject the big money lobbying campaign and vote to send this proposal to the voters, like every other casino proposal.
Call your senator at 1-800-423-6900 (Senate). Tell them to vote NO on the casino bills for Lewiston and Biddeford and send them out to a vote in November. Let the voters decide!
Don’t wait until the after the Legislative session and wish you had done something to stop the spread of gambling casinos. Don’t wait until the state you love is ruined by the quick-buck casino scammers. Act today!
Maine: The Way Life Should Be
“The Way Life Should Be” is the state of Maine’s slogan that visitors and tourists see when they enter our great state. The way these racinos are being forced on us is certainly not “the way life should be.” We deserve a vote on this and the opportunity (yet again) to tell our elected officials we don’t want to expand this predatory business in our state!
Maine is an excellent example of how predatory gambling operators crack the door open just a little and then once they come in, they become the biggest political players in the state.
