Paul Davies, a former first-rate investigative reporter and editorial writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer who is now a fellow at the Institute for American Values, has kicked off his “Get Government Out of Gambling” blog. The link is www.
Paul brings much journalistic credibility along with him. A series of editorials he wrote on casino gambling at The Inquirer was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2009. An investigative series on predatory lending he wrote at the Daily News was a finalist for a Gerald Loeb Award.
We encourage citizens to send Paul news tips about the predatory gambling business and its full partnership with government. He can be reached at pdavies@americanvalues.org
Getting Government out of the Gambling Racket
All objective studies show that great damage is being done to families, individuals and communities by the gambling expansion that has been taking place across the nation. Yet, both parties seem to turn a blind eye towards the devastation.
The Republicans, the party of family values and conservative ethics, seem to like the political donations more than their values.
The Democrats, the party that takes on the big corporations and champions the downdrodden, overlook the most predatory corporations in the country to fill their campaign coffers.
It is time for governments and political parties to take a true look at the exploitation that they are causing by this collaboration with the predatory gambling industry. Dwight Eisenhower warned the nation about the evils of a “military-industrial complex.” Much more damage is being created by the gambling industry-government complex.
The study by Paul Davies is very welcome.
