Maine voters are about to vote for the sixth time in twelve years on whether to allow government to bring more predatory gambling into the state. Questions 2 and 3 would allow for racinos in Biddeford and Lewiston.
A new ad campaign has just come out declaring that voting for these two questions would reduce K-12 education funding in the state. Who is paying for these ads? The casino interests building a casino in Oxford, Maine.
Maine voters have been ripped off by government’s predatory gambling program, whether its Bangor’s Hollywood Slots, Oxford’s casino or the Maine Lottery. It’s a failed public policy. The next referendum before Maine voters should be: do you think it’s time for government to get out of the predatory gambling business? We are pretty a confident a super majority would deliver a resounding yes.
