An electric power outage temporarily shut down 3700 slot machines at a Pennsylvania racino yesterday.
Despite the presence of more than 800,000 electronic gambling machines across the country – 1 for every 395 Americans – and the major role these machines have in funding state public services nationwide, Congress has never investigated the serious charges surrounding the technology and business practices behind the machines.
When Congress finally does investigate electronic gambling machines and puts an intense spotlight on the product and the business model, they may act to shut down the power to these machines permanently.
