Casinos are fighting against efforts to reduce gambling addiction in Pennsylvania

Casinos like to declare they are “just like any other business” but they continually to defy efforts that treat them like any other business. In Pennsylvania, a grassroots push is underway that would require casinos to mail monthly statements to their patrons just like other businesses. Is there anyone with a mortgage or a credit card who does not receive a statement sent either through the mail or electronically?

Casinos are fighting against the effort to bring more openness to their “business” because it will only brighten the spotlight on the most predatory business in the country and most of all, government’s complicity with it.  More than half of slot machine profits come from problem gamblers so any meaningful effort to address addiction tears apart the casino business model.

We urge all of those who are interested in getting government out of the predatory gambling business to join Rep. Clymer, Bill Kearney and the other Pennsylvanians engaged in bringing about this important reform.
